Barefoot is a 1,300-acre master-planned community in Firestone, Colorado, only thirty minutes north of Denver. Originally a rural site, the development began with a reclaimed quarry and naturalized lake. Today, the 100-acre Barefoot Lakes are the central feature of this project’s outdoor-oriented vision.
Made up of two distinct but connected neighborhoods, Barefoot is organized around Ronald Reagan Boulevard. To the south of the boulevard is Barefoot Lakes, where homes are set among lakes, open space, and trail connections along the St. Vrain River. Community life here centers on the water and shared outdoor spaces, including Peninsula Park and The Cove — a neighborhood gathering place with a pool and splash pad, a beach-entry and lap pool, fitness space, courts, and a clubhouse. North of the boulevard, Barefoot Village introduces a more urban pattern with townhomes, cottages, a town square, and scenic views, linked to Barefoot Lakes by a pedestrian underpass.
Redland’s work focused on annexation and zoning, site planning and grading, roadway and utility design, extensive off-site road improvements, drainage and detention, floodplain modeling, and entitlements. The Civil Engineering team developed creative solutions that addressed complex stormwater systems, large-scale earthwork balancing, and existing oil and gas infrastructure in close coordination with partners and agencies. Over the years, their work has helped Barefoot grow into a welcoming place full of possibilities.
