Spring has arrived, marking the return of the semi-annual Redland Site Visit. This tradition brings all staff out of the office and onto the grounds of a signature Redland project, fostering a culture of shared learning and taking pride in a collective effort. This Spring, Redland staff gathered at Ken Caryl Ranch North Plains Filing 1, now officially known as Elk Meadows at Ken Caryl.
Elk Meadows at Ken Caryl is a premier 58-acre community featuring 249 new single-family detached homes. Tucked within a natural valley, the site captures the essence of the “mountain-suburban” lifestyle, offering panoramic views of the Colorado foothills and premier access to outdoor activities. Redland started on the project in 2020, coordinating entitlements for Elk Meadows, Parcel B single-family attached homes, and apartments for Parcel C. With the Elk Meadows neighborhood near completion, the site showcased the tangible results of a project in which Redland’s services of Land Planning, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, and Construction Management were utilized.
The site visit is a pillar event of Redland’s company culture, transforming a project site into a living classroom. Station leaders spread out across the development, prepared to share the challenges and creative solutions that defined the project’s evolution. Small groups rotated through the following stations:
- Entitlements & Planning: Navigating conceptual plans and placemaking through regulatory hurdles.
- Earthwork & Retaining Walls: Moving dirt from one site to the other, working with unique topography.
- Park Design & Municipal Requirements: Balancing neighborhood amenities and water-wise plant palettes with local standards.
- Pipe Networks & Detention Ponds: Construction coordination of horizontal infrastructure and outlets.
Station leaders encouraged questions and discussion among their colleagues, regardless of expertise, which is why the staff site visit is an essential event on Redland’s calendar. Seeing Elk Meadows transition from concept plan to families finding new homes is a testament to our staff’s collective effort in continuing to create great places.
